PA Environment Digest Blog: PA Oil & Gas Industrial Facilities: Permit Notices/Opportunities To Comment

The following notices were published in the January 13 PA Bulletin related to oil and gas industry facilities. Many of the notices offer the opportunity for public comments.

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the January 13 PA Bulletin that it has issued a Section 401 Water Quality Certification covering an Equitrans project to drill two new horizontal natural gas storage wells in the Swarts Complex and Hunters Cave Gas Storage Fields in Center, Franklin, Morris and Washington Townships, Greene County. The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the January 13 PA Bulletin it has received and is reviewing the Act 2 Land Recycling Final Report by Equitrans on the cleanup of soil around the conventional gas well that failed and resulted in the uncontrolled venting of 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas from the Rager Mountain Gas Storage Area in Jackson Township, Cambria County in November 2022. -- BP Point Breeze LLC - Former Petroleum Tank Farm: DEP received a Notice of Intent to remediate the site contaminated with volatile organic compounds and semi-volatile organic compounds in soil and volatile organic compounds, metals and PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ in groundwater for the facility located at 6310 West Passyunk Ave. in Philadelphia. -- United Refining Co. Asphalt Terminal: DEP received a Notice of Intent to remediate the site chlorinated volatile organic compounds in soil and groundwater and Trichloroethene (TCE) in groundwater for the facility located in Springdale Boro, Allegheny County. (PA Bulletin, page 173)

-- Chesapeake Appalachia, LLC - Susan Shale Gas Well Pad: DEP received a Final Report to remediate soil contaminated with drilling wastewater to meet Statewide Health Standards at the pad located in Auburn Twp., Susquehanna County. (PA Bulletin, page 200)

-- EQT Corporation - Rush Run Road Spill Site: DEP received a Final Report on remediation of soil contaminated with chlorides for a spill site located in Center Twp., Greene County. (PA Bulletin, page 201)

-- EQT Corporation - Hoosker Doo Shale Gas Well Pad: DEP received a Final Report on remediation of soil contaminated with aluminum, barium, boron, chloride, iron, lithium, manganese, selenium, strontium, vanadium, and zinc to meet Statewide Health Standards at the pad located in Aleppo Twp., Greene County. -- EQT Corporation - GH58 Shale Gas Well Pad: DEP received a Final Report on remediation of soil contaminated with aluminum, barium, boron, iron, lithium, manganese, selenium, strontium, vanadium, and zinc to the Statewide Health Standard at the pad located in Center Twp., Greene County. Reede 1 Conventional Well Pad - Rager Mountain Gas Storage Area: DEP received a Final Report on remediation of soil contaminated with chloride, aluminum, boron, barium, iron, lithium, manganese, selenium, strontium, vanadium, zinc, acetone, xylenes, 2-butanone (MEK), and carbon disulfide to document remediation of the site to meet Statewide Health Standards located in Jackson Twp., Cambria County.
