DEP approved the permit on January 11, but did not publicly announce it until January 23 in an article by WESB News.
Individuals aggrieved by the decision have 30 days to appeal the permit decision (from January 11) to the Environmental Hearing Board. Read more here.
[Gas Venting From Well
[On January 26, 2024, DEP did a routine inspection on conventional well Lot 580-580-1 operated by Catalyst Energy Inc. in Keating Township, McKean County and found gas was bubbling up from the outside of the casing and it was covered with water.
[DEP’s inspection report noted the well is now permitted as a disposal well and indicated there will be a follow-up inspection that same day.
[No further follow-up action was noted in the report.]

The US Environmental Protection Agency issued a permit for the injection well on August 22, 2022. Read more here.
Marcellus Drilling News said the injection well could handle up to 30 truckloads of oil and gas wastewater a day.
“The prospect of the traffic and location near some homes did not sit well with some local residents,” said MDN.
