On February 3, 2023, the lives of thousands of Ohio and Pennsylvania residents were turned upside down when 53 cars of a train operated by Norfolk Southern, some carrying deadly toxic chemicals, derailed near the border.
You are invited to our next virtual Brown Bag briefing on February 1 when the Better Path Coalition and Pennsylvania Climate Convergence Network will host Hilary Flint of the Breathe Project and Jess Conard of Beyond Plastics who will discuss the derailment, what has happened since in their communities, and what hasn’t.
Hilary Flint is Director of Communications and Community Engagement for Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community and Vice President of Unity Council for the East Palestine Train Derailment.
As a cancer survivor and affected resident, she’s determined to protect others from corporate greed and the health harms generated by the buildout of petrochemical plastics manufacturing.
Jess Conard is a licensed speech language pathologist who was launched into grassroots advocacy following the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment and chemical spill.
Jess has been sought out and featured on multiple national news programs like CNN, Fox and News Nation as well as NPR 1A and other local podcasts to champion endorsements for medical safety and air quality monitoring for her community.
While she continues to seek national policy change for rail safety and amplify initiatives for ecological security, it was a seamless shift for Jess to join Beyond Plastics in 2023 to continue a positive path forward to end plastics pollution.
This event is the latest in a series of legislative tours and briefings organized by the coalition. All elected officials, regulators, staffers, members of the press, and members of the public are invited to attend.
