North Lebanon Township Supervisor Ed Brensinger nominated them for the award.
Horn and Redinger spend countless volunteer hours, on their own accord, cleaning up litter throughout Lebanon County.
For several years, and on a regular basis, they have walked the Lebanon Rails Business Park and Hanford Drive year-round, picking up litter and making sure it gets disposed of properly.
“North Lebanon Township is honored to nominate and present the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s Community Pride Award to LuAnn and Kathy, our “Litter Ladies,” said North Lebanon Township Supervisor, Ed Brensinger. “Their litter patrol and clean-up of high litter areas in North Lebanon Township and surrounding municipalities is greatly appreciated. We hope their voluntary act of service to the community will inspire others to do the same.”
The pair are well known to many neighboring townships and boroughs for their selfless acts of targeting areas of high litter and spending countless hours walking and picking up trash in neighborhoods, along roadways and waterways and in local parks.
After witnessing their dedication to a litter-free environment and the depth of their community service and pride over the years, many neighboring townships and boroughs provide safety vests, gloves, garbage bags and the use of municipal waste dumpsters for the trash they collect.
Their daily walk routes have evolved to strategically target areas within their community that are littered and require TLC.
The Community Pride Awards were presented to Horn and Redinger at a recent ceremony on the evening of June 6, 2023, held during the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority’s June Board of Directors’ Meeting at its Maintenance Operations Engineering Facility located at 1610 Russell Road, Lebanon, PA.
“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful congratulates and commends LuAnn Horn and Kathy Redinger for their efforts to keep Lebanon County clean and beautiful. Litter knows no boundaries and I am delighted to recognize LuAnn and Kathy for cleaning up, not only their own neighborhood, but also surrounding ones. Thank you for keeping our shared public spaces clean and beautiful,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
Clean and beautiful communities tend to see less littering and other illegal behavior, making it a better place for all residents and providing a foundation for community and economic development.
“We are grateful for Ed Brensinger and North Lebanon Township for recognizing LuAnn and Kathy for their many contributions to the local community. We encourage all public officials to recognize the noble and necessary work and the special people who coordinate local programs that keep our communities clean and beautiful,” said Reiter.
