Jim Thorpe Borough To Vote Jan. 12 On Allowing On-Lot Septic Sewage Systems Within 1,000 Feet Of Mauch Chunk Lake, A Drinking Water Source In Carbon County

On January 12,
Jim Thorpe Borough Council is scheduled to vote on a proposal to approve on-lot septic sewage systems within 1,000 feet of Mauch Chunk Lake.

Mauch Chunk Lake provides drinking water for residents of Jim Thorpe, and the Mauch Chunk Creek that flows from the lake is one of the cleanest, coldest tributaries of the Lehigh River.

The group Save Carbon County is urging Jim Thorpe and Carbon County residents to voice their concerns about the proposed amendment to allow development and on-lot septic sewage installations near Mauch Chunk Lake.

The Jim Thorpe Borough Council meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall and will hear public comments at the beginning of the session.

Three Borough Council members have already voiced their approval for the amendment.
