PA Environment Digest Blog: Center For Coalfield Justice Hosts Oct. 5 In-Person, Virtual Public Meeting On PA Health Studies Of Natural Gas Development In Southwest PA

The Center for Coalfield Justice will host an in-person and virtual public meeting October 5 in Cannonsburg, Washington County on studies being conducted on the health impacts of natural gas development.

In 2019, the Wolf administration allocated $3 million for a pair of studies to explore the potential health effects of the natural gas industry, taking action after months of impassioned pleas by the families of childhood cancer patients who live in the most heavily drilled region of the state.

Those studies have now been underway for two years.

The purpose of the public meeting is to allow residents to learn more about the studies being conducted by the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health titled the “PA Health and Environment Studies.”

Though the results of the study will not be available at this meeting, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and members of Pitt Public Health will be there to explain the study process and to take questions from community members.

Attendees will also hear from the Environmental Health Project regarding other health and environment studies that have taken place in the community, as well as to share other information that will help families to protect their health.

The meeting will be held at Yoney Pavilion in Town Park, Cannonsburg from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
