“The Wolf Administration continues to support the revitalization efforts of unused spaces that breathe new life into buildings and improve communities across Pennsylvania,” said Sec. Weaver. “The ISRP grants are essential to providing new opportunities that improve the quality of life for our residents, while also protecting our land and environment.”
The funds will be used for environmental remediation at the property, located at 125 S. Washington St. in Pottstown borough.
The ISRP grant will also be used to: install a protective cap; clean fill to fill pits, sumps, and trenches; install a vapor barrier system; properly abandon three groundwater supply wells; conduct two indoor air quality samplings; install two additional groundwater monitoring wells; collect groundwater samples; and remedial oversite.
The estimated total cost of the project is $642,170.
“This vital funding allows important spaces to be transformed and revitalized,” said DEP Acting Secretary Ramez Ziadeh. “The testing criteria of this specific site ensures the safety and quality of the site’s future use.”
The ISRP provides loans and grants for environmental assessments and remediation carried out by eligible applicants who did not cause or contribute to the contamination. The program is designed to foster the cleanup of environmental contamination at industrial sites, thereby bringing blighted land into productive reuse.
