PUC Chair Gladys Brown Dutrieuille Elected President Of Mid-Atlantic Conference Of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners

On June 22, Public Utility Commission Chairman Gladys Brown Dutrieuille has been elected the new President of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC) – an organization that includes utility regulators from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia and West Virginia.

In her remarks at MACRUC’s 27th Annual Education Conference, Chairman Dutrieuille noted the importance of collaboration and engagement as states work to address a myriad of utility issues, underscoring “we are in this together.”   

She emphasized the need to ensure that MACRUC remains a forum for discussing issues and concerns, even when those issues are controversial, and continues to be a strong resource for regulators and states – “keeping members engaged in important issues that states are dealing with, but also acknowledging the important human factors of keeping members and citizens safe.”

Key issues facing regulators in the Mid-Atlantic Region and nationally include grid modernization, electric vehicles and related transportation issues, power transmission, renewable energy, cybersecurity and safeguarding critical infrastructure systems against natural disasters or human threats.

Continuing National Voice for Pennsylvania

Chairman Dutrieuille also continues Pennsylvania PUC’s strong tradition of nationwide leadership in utility matters, serving on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) – which oversees the association's general and financial functions and approves resolutions that serve as the association's policy.

Previously, she completed three years of service as the Chair of NARUC’s Committee on Critical Infrastructure – the maximum term for a committee chair. In addition to serving on NARUC’s board, she continues as a member of the Critical Infrastructure Committee and serves at the Chair of the Black Sky Subcommittee under NARUC’s Emergency Preparedness, Recovery and Resiliency Task Force, which established to explore utility issues related to weather emergencies and evaluate the national utility response to COVID-19. 

And she was nominated by NARUC to serve on a joint Federal-State Task Force on Electric Transmission.
