PA Resources Council To Host 5 Backyard Composting, Recycling, Rain Barrel Workshops In June

In June, the PA Resources Council will conduct environmental education workshops-- both webinars and in-person on a variety of environmental topics.

Webinars (6:30 to 7:30 p.m.)

-- June 7: Backyard Composting For Southwest PA Residents. Learn the benefits of backyard composting, including the overall process, methods for setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways to use finished compost. $70 course fee includes an 82-gallon compost bin. Following online instruction, individuals will pick up their compost bins at PRC’s office in Pittsburgh.

-- June 27: Recycling & Waste Reduction. Learn recycling best practices concerning curbside collection, hard-to-recycle material, household chemicals and pharmaceutical disposal then ask questions during Q&A session.  Free, statewide.

In-Person Workshops

Rain Barrel Workshops--

Discover how to harvest rainwater from your roof, store it in a barrel and use it in the landscape. Learn about stormwater runoff problems and learn techniques to reduce watershed pollution. The $80 course fee includes a 55-gallon rain barrel.

-- June 2: Rain Barrel Workshop: Fern Hollow Nature Center, 1901 Glen Mitchell Rd., Sewickley. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

-- June 15: Green Tree Public Library, 10 W. Manilla Ave., Pittsburgh. 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Backyard Composting--
