PA Sea Grant: New Video Shows How Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Thru Aquariums, Water Garden Trades

The
Pennsylvania Sea Grant's latest aquatic invasive species (AIS) video explores the aquarium and water garden trades, and enthusiasts.

Often times AIS are released into the wild by owners who can no longer care for them. This program talks about the problem and provides possible solutions.

Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) are non-native plants, animals, or pathogens that cause harm to the environment, the economy, and human or animal health.

Preventing their spread is important because once introduced, these species disrupt ecosystems, reduce biodiversity, and cost communities time, money, resources, and lost revenue.

Funding and support provided by Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Institute, Penn State University
