PA Resources Council Awarded Foundation For Delaware County Grant For Stream Stewards Student Education Program

The
PA Resources Council was awarded a $20,000 Foundation for Delaware County grant to maintain the Stream Stewards student education program developed with the Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative and local school districts.

"Stream Stewards is a hands-on, multi-session educational program focusing on water quality that starts in classrooms and ends with field trips to local streams,” said Diana Andrejczak, PRC Eastern Program Director. “This program allows kids to re-connect and learn more about the natural world around them while allowing PRC to educate and inspire the next generation of responsible citizens and environmental stewards.

“We are grateful for The Foundation for Delaware County’s generosity and look forward to using these funds to improve the health and well-being of Delaware County children and their community.”

During interactive classroom lessons, students learn about watersheds and freshwater ecology and examine how they are impacted by our daily actions.

This simulation allows students to observe how pollutants can be carried into local streams and creeks through stormwater runoff.

Students then put their classroom lessons to the test in local streams as staff lead field trips to conduct a stream health survey.
