The results of the 2021 Upper Delaware BioBlitz are in! Seven teams of scientists and amateur naturalists visited a 65+ acre property in Northern Wayne County over the course of the year to gather information on plant and wildlife species.
The property is on the ridge overlooking the Delaware River and its very diverse habitat, including open fields and meadows, wetlands, ponds, a headwaters stream and mixed hardwood forest.
Over 725 unique species were collected, identified and cataloged and 18 of those species were listed as Wayne County first occurrences.
The findings in this year’s event show the unique biological diversity of the Upper Delaware and the need to protect the region.
