Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy New Floating Classroom To Host Single-Day Educational Adventures, Floating Lecture Series

The Montgomery County-based Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy is set to host more science mini-camps and single-day adventures throughout the rest of the summer on the Conservancy’s brand new “Floating Classroom” at Green Lane Park

The Conservancy’s Floating Classroom is a science lab and learning space constructed on a reimagined 24’ pontoon boat. The "classroom" is equipped with microscopes, iPads, Wifi, water quality testing supplies and other equipment that will aid students as they explore Green Lane Reservoir.

The Floating Classroom has already held two of its three sessions of “mini camps,” which are science adventure experiences that run Monday – Wednesday for middle and high-school-aged students.  The last of the summer’s mini camps run August 2nd – 4th.

Upcoming Programs

New Floating Classroom programs entail the “single-day Floating adventures” and the “Floating Lecture Series.”

The Single-Day Floating Adventures are separate, single-day experiences for middle-school-aged students only. Each day will have a different educational focus, with lessons including watershed science, aquatic communities, ornithology, geology, botany, and more.

Single-Day Floating Adventures will be held Thursday, August 12 and Friday, August 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Floating Lecture Series is a morning program geared toward adult learners. Participants will enjoy a presentation by a local natural resources expert while cruising around the beautiful reservoir on the classroom pontoon boat. Participants will also do some kayaking, canoeing and off-boat exploration.

Floating Lecture Series programs will be held from 9:00 a.m. to Noon--

-- Saturday, August 21:  Focus: Native Plants

-- Saturday, August 28: Focus: Freshwater Mussels at Green Lane with Roger Thomas from the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University
