The photo contest drew images from across the Susquehanna Greenway and saw its largest ever submissions count totaling 768 entries.
These stunning photos were presented to a select group of judges who based their decisions on adherence to the category theme, composition, and quality. This year’s categories included Treasured River Towns, Treasured Landscapes, Susquehanna Adventures, and Wildlife.
“From people using it for wild adventures to the tranquil sunset scenes, all the photos showcased a reason to love the Susquehanna,” explains Hope Byers, Columbia Crossing Director at Susquehanna National Heritage Area, and one of the judges for this year’s contest.
Nick Zell’s photo from The White Cliffs of Conoy was named the Grand Prize Winner and 1st Place Winner in the Susquehanna Adventures category. The image depicts a man watching a beautiful sunset over the White Cliffs of Conoy with his fishing pole and bicycle after a day of adventures along the Susquehanna.
This photo and the other winners can be viewed on SGP's website and on SGP’s Facebook page.
In addition to receiving cash prizes, the contest winners will have their photos printed, framed, and displayed as part of a traveling gallery that will exhibit across the Susquehanna Greenway throughout the year.
Locations for the gallery can also be found on SGP's website.
“SGP seeks to inspire and celebrate the connections that are shared between our communities and the Susquehanna River,” says SGP Executive Director Corey Ellison. “Our annual photo contest provides one way of fostering this connection by encouraging people to get out on the Greenway and explore the Susquehanna through a camera lens.”
Susquehanna Photo Cruise
The winning images will make their debut at the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership's upcoming event, a Susquehanna Photo Cruise on the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat in Williamsport, PA.
Attendees will enjoy access to the gallery while experiencing a 1.5-hour sunset cruise on the Susquehanna River. It's a great chance to meet some of the photographers and learn about Greenway projects in the area. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online.
