Dr. Spielman has 20 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and education sectors.
Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers University Camden-- a statewide nonprofit organization nationally recognized for its expertise in recycling and waste reduction.
“Darren is an accomplished and dynamic nonprofit leader who demonstrates a keen understanding of what it takes to develop and implement a strategic vision,” according to PRC Board President Winnie Branton. “His ‘people first’ commitment to justice, equity, inclusion and diversity will now extend to bringing together individuals and organizations across the state who are dedicated to environmental protection.”
As Executive Director of PRC, Dr. Spielman will oversee statewide public and private partnerships focused on education, material collection/recycling, watershed protection and litter prevention and oversee staff members based in regional offices in Allegheny County and Delaware County.
“I’m excited to join the team at PRC and start raising the revenue to sustain and grow the organization’s work, which is essential to the well-being of the state,” said Dr. Spielman.
“The Board is excited to welcome Darren as our new Executive Director and confident that PRC will be well positioned under his guidance to thrive in the years to come,” said Ms. Branton.
Dr. Spielman was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he lives with his wife and two children. He has harbored a lifelong passion for environmental justice.
