The Partners honored exemplary projects and the teams of people behind them that bring the environmental, social, and economic benefits of green stormwater infrastructure to life in Philadelphia and the region.
This year’s winners were recognized for excellence in GSI in the following categories: Public Projects, Innovation, and for the first time, a Best of Green City, Clean Waters award that recognizes past and present public or private GSI projects that exemplify the triple bottom line goals of Green City, Clean Waters.
A public online poll determined the winners of the categories and was announced during the ceremony.
“Every public and private GSI project contributes to the improved health of our waterways and our communities, supports diverse local businesses, creates jobs, and improves public health and community well-being," said Anna Shipp, Executive Director for the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) of Greater Philadelphia. "These projects continue to set a precedent for using GSI to create positive environmental, social, and economic change in the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond.”
“Philadelphia is an incredible leader in green stormwater infrastructure, and we hope more cities take inspiration from Philadelphia’s Green City, Clean Waters plan. Tonight’s finalists and their projects show how green infrastructure can benefit both the environment and our economy while instilling equity within our communities,” said Andrew Sawyers, Director of the Office of Wastewater Management, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“Philadelphia’s residents want quality water. Green City, Clean Waters has done a phenomenal job making sure our drinking water and local waterways are clean. We look forward to continuing the work of our bold, sustainable focused approach to stormwater management,” said Randy E. Hayman, Esq., Commissioner & CEO, Philadelphia Water Department.
