Andrew Johnson, William Penn Foundation’s Director Of Watershed Programs, To Retire In 2021

After 20 years at the William Penn Foundation, Andres Johnson, Director of the Watershed Protection Program plans to retire in June 2021.

Swan McCaney, Executive Director of the Foundation, issued this statement on his retirement--

The entire board and staff of the Foundation share enormous gratitude for Andy’s years of service and the impact he has had on advancing our mission to protect the Delaware River watershed and improve the overall quality of life for the people of our region.

With deep experience in the environmental field and a drive to cultivate greater collaboration among professionals in the watershed, he brought vision to our environmental grantmaking and he has built a strong team of professionals who will continue to carry this important work forward.

Among the many achievements of Andy’s tenure at WPF, he was instrumental in developing the Watershed Protection Program’s 10-year strategic plan in 2013 and has thoughtfully shepherded the program since then. 

He took part in successfully launching several networks of environmental nonprofits organized around key issues, including the Delaware River Watershed Initiative, the Circuit Trails Coalition, and the Alliance for Watershed Education of the Delaware River. 

Andy's support of the formation of these networks has helped to transform how nonprofits work together in the Delaware River watershed region.

Andy will be greatly missed, but he leaves behind a highly experienced team to continue the work of the Watershed Protection Program. 

We have been incredibly fortunate to have Andy’s experience and leadership at the Foundation for two decades, and we wish him the best in retirement.
