Giving Tuesday on December 1 is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
This year, the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Program is participating!
Master Watershed Stewards are community volunteers working toward solutions regarding flooding, pollution, loss of habitat and other problems which currently impact our environment, home values, drinking water purification costs, among other things.
The program is currently active in twenty counties across the Commonwealth with more than 500 volunteers.
Since the program began in 2013, Master Watershed Stewards have contributed over 50,000 volunteer hours educating the community and implementing projects such as stream restoration, water quality sampling, stream cleanups, the installation of rain gardens, meadows, and more.
Giving Tuesday proceeds will be used to provide financial assistance to those without the means to afford the training.
The Master Watershed Steward program wants to ensure that anyone with an interest in the environment and a desire to volunteer is able to participate and make the world a little better, regardless of their income.
