Dept. Of Health Reported 5 Additional Deaths Due To COVID-19; 654 New Cases

On August 2, the Department of Health reported 5 additional deaths as a result of COVID-19 bringing the total number of deaths to 7,209.

As of 12:00 a.m. August 2, there were 654 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 113,590 in all 67 counties.

Approximately 8,311 of Pennsylvania’s total positive cases are in health care workers.

County-specific information and a statewide map are available.

Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

-- 1 percent are ages 0-4;

-- 1 percent are ages 5-12;

-- 3 percent are ages 13-18;

-- 9 percent are ages 19-24;

-- 37 percent are ages 25-49;

-- Nearly 23 percent are ages 50-64; and

-- 24 percent are ages 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are aged 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. There have been no pediatric deaths to date. More data is available here.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 19,603 resident cases of COVID-19, and  3,979 cases among employees, for a total of 23,582 at 857 distinct facilities in 61 counties.
