Dept. Of Health Reported 31 Additional Deaths Due To COVID-19; 735 New Cases

On August 18, the Department of Health reported 31 additional deaths as a result of COVID-19 bringing the total number of deaths to 7,499.

As of 12:00 a.m. August 18, there were 735 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 125,579 in all 67 counties.

Approximately 8,997 of Pennsylvania’s total positive cases are in health care workers.

County-specific information and a statewide map are available.

Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

-- 1 percent are ages 0-4;

-- 1 percent are ages 5-12;

-- Nearly 4 percent are ages 13-18;

-- Nearly 10 percent are ages 19-24;

-- Nearly 38 percent are ages 25-49;

-- Nearly 23 percent are ages 50-64; and

-- Nearly 24 percent are ages 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are aged 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. There have been no pediatric deaths to date. More data is available here.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 20,444 resident cases of COVID-19, and  4,261 cases among employees, for a total of 24,705 at 899 distinct facilities in 61 counties.
