The latest newsletter from DEP’s Chesapeake Bay Office provides an update on implementation of Pennsylvania’s Phase III Bay Watershed Implementation plan from the July 20 meeting of the State Team meeting.
DEP, DCNR, State Conservation Commission, County Commissioners Association of PA, PA Farm Bureau, Fish and Boat Commission, PA Infrastructure Investment Authority, PA Municipal Authorities Association, U.S.D.A. Farm Service Agency, U.S.D.A. Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Geological Survey and EPA all provided updates.
The newsletter also highlights best management practice and data reporting activities as well as EPA’s evaluation of Pennsylvania progress in meeting the 2018-19 and 2020-21 milestones. [Read more here.]
County progress in developing and implementing Clean Water Plans as part of the WIP III Plan are also highlighted in Adams, Bedford, Centre, Cumberland, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.
A state legislative update is also included covering the new Keystone Free Fund driver and vehicle license program to help fund DCNR riparian buffer initiatives [Read more here] and Senate passage of Senate Bill 915 (Yaw-R-Lycoming) regulating use of fertilizer on turf [Read more here].
Also noted was the announcement by Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Lycoming) of his intention to introduce legislation to fund on-farm conservation measures through the State Conservation Commission and county conservation districts [Read more here].
