On May 27, the PA Association of Environmental Professionals announced the award of college scholarships to brothers Peter Livengood and Calvin Livengood attending California University of Pennsylvania who will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Peter Livengood
Peter is currently enrolled at the California University of Pennsylvania with a perfect 4.0 GPA, double-majoring in Fisheries & Wildlife Biology and Jurisprudence and will receive the Gifford Pinchot Scholarship.
He is also enrolled in Cal University’s Accelerated Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Degree Program for Legal Studies: Law & Public Policy!
He is active in many organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, Ohiopyle Stewart Volunteer Fire Department, PA Wildlife Leadership Academy, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology eBird Program, and the Hawk Migration Association of North America where Peter founded a new official hawk-watch site in the Allegheny Mountains of the Eastern Migration Flyway.
He is a published writer for his natural resource related articles and conservation work in the PA Fish & Boat Commission’s PA Angler and Boater, PA Environmental Digest, PA Wildlife Leadership Academy NextGen Blog, and PHAA Excelsior.
In addition, Peter is a pianist, music composer, and songwriter. Peter has completed three extensive conservation-focused undergraduate research projects, which he presented at several conferences in Pennsylvania, as well as Nevada.
Following his undergraduate career, Peter plans to pursue advanced degrees in both legal studies and environmental education.
Calvin Livengood
Calvin is a second-time applicant for our scholarship program from the California University of Pennsylvania and will receive the Maurice Goddard Scholarship.
He is a triple-major in Fisheries & Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, and Business Management with a 3.99 GPA and is concurrently enrolled in Cal University’s Accelerated Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Degree Program for an MBA!
Calvin is very active on campus as well as in his community, including serving as treasurer and president of the Cal U Lions Club, working as a note-taker for the Students with Disabilities Office, volunteer judge for the 2019 Science Olympiad, and volunteer firefighter with the Ohiopyle Stewart Volunteer Fire Department.
He participated in a Boy Scout’s William T. Hornaday Silver Medal Project to improve stormwater management in the Ohiopyle Borough and has been an Academy Support Team Member with the Pennsylvania Wildlife Leadership Academy.
Calvin has completed three undergraduate research projects, one of which models raptor migration, has spanned three semesters and is still ongoing. This research was the first to document raptor migration on Chestnut Ridge in Fayette County.
Recently, Calvin held an internship with Cal University’s Chemistry Department where he processed and analyzed soil samples from past/current industrial sites along the Monongahela River for heavy metal contamination.
Calvin plans to complete his MBA and is seriously considering a career in sustainable energy development, wildlife management, and/or environmental consulting.
