Keep PA Beautiful, DEP and PennDOT will hold a Litter Summit in Harrisburg on November 14 to share findings of a new Pennsylvania Litter Study and discuss solutions to litter and illegal dumping problems with a variety of stakeholders.
Participants will hear from experts on why people litter; behavior change strategies; and what local, state and national governments, major corporations and nonprofit groups are doing to combat the high environmental, economic and reputational costs of plastics, a leading material source of litter in Pennsylvania.
“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and hundreds of thousands of volunteers have cleaned up over 141 million pounds of trash since 1990 from roadways, streams, parks and cherished landscapes.” Shannon Reiter, President of Keep PA Beautiful explains. “While we are grateful for the volunteers and partnering organizations, businesses and state and local governments that have supported these efforts, cleanups alone are not an effective strategy. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is calling for a change; we need to do more.”

Only by changing littering and illegal dumping behaviors will we achieve the desired economic, social and environmental outcomes that come with a clean and beautiful Pennsylvania, said Keep PA Beautiful.
The event is sponsored by the PA Beverage Association, Garver Foundation, Giant Food Stores, PickUpThe Poconos.com, Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority and Columbia Gas of PA.
