Group Against Smog And Pollution To Celebrate 50th Anniversary Oct. 12 In Pittsburgh

The Group Against Smog And Pollution (GASP) will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on October 12 at the historic Rodef Shalom Congregation in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.
GASP was founded in 1969 by volunteers concerned about air quality in southwestern Pennsylvania. Since then, GASP has worked tirelessly to explain and combat our air quality problems through public meetings, engagement with the press, educational events, permit reviews, and many other means.
GASP has participated on various county, state, and national boards, with stakeholder groups, and on environmental policy committees.
Occasionally GASP presses its goals with litigation, having brought action related to requiring Allegheny County to adopt pollution standards based on the Clean Air Act, enforcement of air quality standards at the Clairton Coke Works, LTV Corporation’s air quality violations at the firm’s former Hazelwood plant, DTE’s long-standing air quality infractions at its former Neville Island Shenango coke plant, and a number of other instances.
Join GASP at its Anniversary Celebration and enjoy live music, food and drinks, and a silent auction, followed by the Michelle Madoff Award of Environmental Excellence Ceremony.
The Celebration will also serve as the group's annual fundraiser, with all proceeds helping to fund our education, advocacy, and legal work.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available.  To learn more about sponsoring the event contact Chelsea Hilty by sending email to: chelsea@gasp-pgh.org or calling 412-924-0604.
