Friends Of Allegheny Wilderness Hickory Creek Wilderness Trail Stewardship Weekend July 26, 27, 28, Warren County

Friends of Allegheny Wilderness volunteers are now in our 19th season of doing trail work in the Allegheny National Forest! The next Trail Stewardship weekend will be July 26, 27 and 28 in the Hickory Creek Wilderness in Warren County.
FAW has been the formal adopting organization of the 13-mile Hickory Creek Wilderness trail since our inception, and has done a great job of keeping the trail clear of fallen woody debris and encroaching live vegetation for almost two decades now.
If one could somehow suddenly see all in one place a big pile of all the woody material FAW volunteers have removed from the trail over the years, it would blow your mind.
Please come be part of the fun! This is a great way to give back to America's National Wilderness Preservation System.
We will meet at the Hickory Creek Wilderness trailhead parking lot on Hearts Content Road on Friday, July 26th, spend Friday and Saturday nights in the wilderness, and hike out on Sunday.
We should be able to clear the entire 13-mile trail over the course of the weekend.
Since this is a federally-designated wilderness area under the Wilderness Act of 1964, no power tools such as chainsaws will be used, in order to help perpetuate Hickory Creek's wildness, and the rustic nature of the trail.
Hand tools such as axes and hand saws will be our primary method of clearing the trail. So, there is no specialized training needed (such as chainsaw training), and beginners are welcome!
Please contact FAW by sending email to: info@pawild.org  with any questions you may have about the weekend, or to sign up for the project.
There is no cost to participate, but each volunteer must bring their own camping gear, food, and water (or water filtration device) for the weekend, and come prepared for any weather conditions we may encounter.
