In the July 6 PA Bulletin, the Environmental Quality Board published a proposed regulation for public comment lowering the allowable sulfur content of No. 2 heating oil and lighter commercial fuel oil from 500 ppm to 15 ppm.
The compliance date for the new standard would be 60 days after the publication of the regulation as final.
Lowering the standard will put Pennsylvania in line with surrounding states which have already adopted the standard and reduce sulfur emissions by 4,000 tons per year.
The EQB will hold 3 public hearings on the proposal in Norristown, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh to accept comments. Comments are due September 4.
The hearings will be held at 1:00 p.m.--
-- August 6: DEP Southwest Regional Office, 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh;
-- August 7: DEP Southeast Regional Office, 2 East Main Street, Norristown; and
-- August 8: DEP Southcentral Regional Office, 909 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg.
