Keep PA Beautiful Opposes Using Recycling Fund, Other Community Project Monies To Pay Agency Operating Expenses

On June 17, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful sent an open letter to members of the Senate, House and to Gov. Wolf urging them not to use Recycling Fund and other money set aside to support community-based environmental programs and cleanups to pay every day operating expenses for DEP and DCNR.
The text of the letter follows--
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful urges members of the General Assembly not to use money that has been set aside to support community-based environmental improvement projects in the Recycling, Keystone Recreation, Parks and Conservation and Environmental Stewardship funds to pay the operating expenses of the departments of Environmental Protection and Conservation and Natural Resources.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and our local affiliates and partners mobilize over 125,000 volunteers every year to clean up trash along roadways and streams, illegal dumps and undertake projects to improve the beauty and upkeep of our communities.
We know how critical these funds are to community efforts to improve the environment, enhance recreation opportunities and clean up our rivers and streams, because we work with communities every day to empower them to keep them clean, beautiful and safe.
We need to invest more in our communities and citizens, not less.  Quality of life matters and these funds support local quality of life and health and safety projects.
Please protect these valuable funding resources and keep them for their intended purposes - supporting our communities.
Sincerely,
James Bonner
