The Brodhead Watershed Association will hold its Annual River Ramble on August 4 featuring an eco-tour of the Mill and Buck Hill creeks area near Mountainhome in Barrett Township, Monroe County.
The tour will run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. starting at the Friendly Community Center In Mountainhome.
Participants will drive to natural highlights along a mapped route, each spot staffed by some of the area’s finest naturalists eager to share their knowledge and love of the watershed.
The interactive, drive-yourself tour will feature a visit to Buck Hill Falls and Jenkins Woods hosted by the Buck Hill Conservation Foundation. Participants will learn about the ongoing conservation work in the Buck Hill Creek headwaters.
Ramblers will also visit Rattlesnake Creek on State Gamelands 221, learn about the hike to Rattlesnake Falls and how gamelands are managed for wildlife and people.
Enjoy light refreshments and conversation from 4 to 5 p.m. at the site of the former Buck Hill Inn, now an historic park. A beloved after-Ramble tradition!
