On May 10, the Pike County Commissioners announced they presented volunteer Mikki Weiss with an award in recognition of her work, time and effort devoted to establishing the Pike County Tick Borne Diseases Task Force.
The Task Force, which was begun in 2014, builds community awareness about tick borne diseases through education, support, and advocacy.
“Without Mikki’s determination in forging strategic partnerships that have helped to drive the Task Force forward, we would not be where we are today,” said Commissioner Chairman Matthew Osterberg.
Weiss’s many accomplishments include: formation of the Pike County Tick Borne Diseases (TBD) Task Force; formation of the nonprofit TBD Support Network; assistance in the creation of the TBD Task Force website; creation of the highly successful 2015 Tick Symposium; Initiation of the county-wide tick study; and assistance in the creation of the Wayne Memorial Hospital TBD Wellness Center
“Pike County residents will share a healthier future because of Mikki’s commitment to alleviating this epidemic,” added Osterberg.
