As the school year winds down, it’s time to start thinking summer vacation! Twice this summer, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Berks County will host its one-of-a-kind Appalachian Adventure Camp for young nature enthusiasts entering grades 4-8.
The camp sessions take place Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and run July 8 – 12 and August 12 – 16. The one-week camp provides a unique learning experience with hands-on activities, crafts, and outdoor adventures, all focusing on the glorious Appalachian Forest.
Students will learn about the plants and animals that call the Appalachian Forest home, including raptors. Activities will include hiking, kayaking, bird watching, art and music making, nest box building, journaling, owl pellet dissection, radio telemetry testing, meeting LIVE raptors, and more!
Price is $250 for the session, and a discounted $200 for Mountain Members. Morning care 8:00-9:00 a.m. and evening care 4:00-5:00 p.m.is available daily, for only $25 for the whole week. There is an OPTIONAL overnight stay Thursday into Friday for participants entering grades 7 and 8 for no extra charge.
