DEP Holds March 21 Meeting/Hearing On Rolling Hills Landfill Expansion In Berks County

On March 18, the Department of Environmental Protection announced it will host a public meeting and hearing on March 21 to answer questions and obtain comments regarding the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority’s Major Permit Modification Application to increase the capacity of the Rolling Hills Landfill, located in Earl Township, Berks County.
The event will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Oley Valley Fairgrounds, 26 Jefferson Street, Oley, PA  19547.
The application is for a lateral and vertical expansion of 8.8 million cubic yards. The expansion, if granted, would add an additional 10.4 years of capacity to the life of the landfill.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m., DEP staff members and representatives from Delaware County Solid Waste Authority will be available to answer questions on the permit application.
The public hearing will begin following the meeting, but no later than 7:00 p.m.
Individuals will have the opportunity to present up to five (5) minutes of verbal testimony. Commenters should limit their remarks to the conditions of the permit application.
Those who wish to present testimony are asked to register in advance by contacting John Repetz by sending email to: jrepetz@pa.gov or calling 717-705-4904. Time permitting, those who did not pre-register will be given the opportunity to testify.
The hearing may conclude earlier if all testifiers in attendance have spoken before the designated end time.
This is the second hearing DEP held on the application.  An earlier hearing was held on June 7 of last year.
Questions should be directed to John Repetz, DEP Southcentral Regional Office, by sending email to: jrepetz@pa.gov or calling 717-705-4904.
