The Department of Environmental Protection is now accepting applications for its 2019 Environmental Education Grants. The deadline for applications is January 11. (formal notice)
Two types of grants will be offered including general grants that will be funded up to $25,000 and mini-grants that will be funded up to $3,000.
“From a neighborhood event or class activity to statewide public awareness campaigns, environmental educational outreach takes many forms, engaging Pennsylvanians of all ages to develop their local and broader environmental knowledge,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “DEP is committed to supporting these diverse learning experiences, which result in real improvements to the environment and nurture ongoing environmental stewardship.”

Over the Environmental Education Grants Program's tenure, grantees have included schools and school districts, nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, county conservation districts and businesses.
These grant-funded organizations have used the funding to address important environmental education topics within their communities.
Priority topics include water, climate change and environmental justice.

The Program was established by the Environmental Education Act which mandates setting aside 5 percent of the pollution fines and penalties the Department collects annually for environmental education in this Commonwealth.
In its 25-year history, the Program has funded more than $12 million in environmental education grants.
