PA Lake Erie Environmental Forum Oct. 23, Tom Ridge Environmental Center

On October 23, the Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Sea Grant invite interested members of the public to attend a meeting of the PA Lake Erie Environmental Forum at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in Erie from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
PA-LEEF forums are open to the public and feature topics related to local and regional Lake Erie issues, and larger-scale policies affecting all of the Great Lakes. Citizens are encouraged to attend and engage in the process of environmental protection by providing local insights, information, and opinion.
The Forum will feature two “special focus” presentations to address hot topics in the Pennsylvania Lake Erie Basin:
-- Penn State Behrend researcher, Dr. Anthony Foyle, who will discuss “Coastal Bluff Erosion” and his work to increase the knowledge of Lake Erie bluff erosion.
Leading the group through cutting-edge methods of remote sensing such as digital orthophotography, LiDAR, and change detection, this presentation will be of interest to lakeshore property owners, real estate professionals, and municipalities responsible for management of Lake Erie bluff setbacks.
-- PA Sea Grant staff, Marti Martz and Anna McCartney, will lead “Plastic in Our Public Waters,” an examination of the impacts of plastic pollution on our waters and the social science behind consumer behavior.
Joined by Ohio Sea Grant staff, Jill Bartolotta and Sue Bixler, the group will present a regional opportunity for groups to collaborate on a plastics outreach campaign.
-- Tim Bruno, Chief of the DEP Great Lakes Office will provide updates on rulemaking regarding the Great Lakes & St. Lawrence Waterway, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and the Pennsylvania State Water Plan.
Citizens, policy makers, local stakeholders, and municipal officials are encouraged to attend.
Please call or email Mart Martz at 814-217-9011 extension 104 or send email to: mam60@psu.edu  to reserve a seat.
