The Department of Environmental Protection and its regional air quality partnerships have forecast a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for ozone Wednesday, September 5 in
Bucks Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
On Wednesday, an exceptionally strong ridge of high pressure will produce mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the lower and middle 90s, and light southwest winds.
These conditions coupled with normal weekday emissions of ozone precursors will act to generate ozone concentrations in the code ORANGE range Wednesday afternoon, especially along the I-95 corridor.
Increasing chances for afternoon thunderstorms Thursday should keep ozone in the moderate range on this day.
These forecasts are provided in conjunction with DEP’s regional air quality partnerships.
