Sewickley Creek Family Field Day Aug. 4 Highlights Creek Cleanup, Outdoors In Westmoreland

The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association will hold the 2nd Annual Family Field Day on August 4 at the Lowber Abandoned Mine Drainage Treatment Project on Herminie-Lowber Road near Lowber from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Residents will be able to learn about efforts to clean up Sewickley Creek, explore a walking trail and participate in a variety of fun and educational activities.
During the field day, stations will offer demonstrations of water testing and information on the site’s history, kayak and water safety, plant sampling and microbiology. Local coke oven historian Mike Mance and railroad historian Lou Corsi will also participate.
Attendees should not wear sandals or flip flops. Long pants are recommended. In case of rain, the field day will be held on August 18.
The event is funded by the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds.
A free lunch, snack and water will be served. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by August 2 by sending email to: scwa@sewickleycreek.com  or contact Tom Keller at 724-610-0829.
