DEP Now Accepting Clean Diesel Grant Applications For VW Settlement Funds

The Department of Environmental Protection is now accepting applications for the Clean Diesel Grant Program, part of the Driving PA Forward Program, with funds provided by the EPA settlement with Volkswagen. Applications will be accepted from May 19 to July 6.  (formal notice)
“We’re excited to be able to use settlement funds to strengthen this already successful grant program, and to kick off the first of our grant programs under Governor Wolf’s ‘Driving PA Forward’ initiative” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “Whether it is a school district upgrading their school bus fleet or a private company repowering their delivery trucks, projects under the Clean Diesel grant program lead to cleaner air and lower emissions."
DEP is seeking applications for projects that will replace, repower or retrofit fleet diesel-powered highway and nonroad vehicles, engines and equipment. Funding is also available for public and private entities that operate diesel-powered fleets throughout this Commonwealth.
These entities may include school districts, municipal authorities, political subdivisions, other State agencies, nonprofit entities, corporations, limited liability companies or partnerships incorporated or registered in this Commonwealth, air quality or transportation organizations, and metropolitan or rural planning organizations.
Projects must use technologies certified or verified by the EPA or the California Air Resources Board to lower diesel emissions, unless otherwise noted in the Grant Program guidelines. The technology may be a single technology or a combination of available technologies. The majority of the fleet's annual operation time must occur within this Commonwealth.
The Department will not reimburse grant recipients for project costs incurred prior to the grant performance period set forth in the applicable grant agreement.
