The Department of Environmental Protection Tuesday announced it will host a webinar November 30 to outline details of the updated GP-5 and new GP-5A general permits that include thresholds on methane emissions for oil and gas operations starting at 10:30 a.m.
The updated GP-5 is applicable to midstream and natural gas transmission facilities, and GP-5A is for unconventional well sites and pigging stations. Both general permits incorporate the most current state and federal requirements.
“These permits are the first in the nation to establish a threshold to control methane emissions at unconventional well sites and midstream and natural gas transmission facilities,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “These permits are one part of fulfilling Governor Wolf’s methane reduction strategy, which aims to reduce emissions that contribute to climate change, affect human health, and waste Pennsylvania’s valuable natural resources.”
After a presentation from DEP Secretary McDonnell and Bureau of Air Quality program staff there will be a short Q&A for accredited media only.

Advisory Committee Meeting
DEP is expected to discuss the proposed revisions to the GP-5 and new GP-5A general permits at the December 14 meeting of the Air Quality Technical Advisory Committee. The meeting will be held in Room 105 of the Rachel Carson Building starting at 9:15.
