Brodhead Watershed Assn Water Wiser Kids Frogsicles And Fall Leaves Program Oct. 21 In Monroe County

The Brodhead Watershed Association in Monroe County is hosting another in its series of Water Wiser Kids events— Frogsicles and Falling Leaves— on October 21 at Ice Lake in Barrett Township in Cresco starting at 10:30 a.m.
When you’re a frog, you can’t bundle up for winter. When you’re a tree, you can’t stay warm by the fireplace. Curious about how different kinds of critters prepare for cold weather? Come to this Water Wiser Kids event.
Looking under rocks and using nets and buckets to dip into the water, children will see what what wiggly, squiggly creatures they can find. With guidance from Kettle Creek Environmental Educator Brittney Coleman, kids and their grownups will learn how the natural world changes to survive a cold Pocono winter.
“Some frogs hibernate at the bottom of the lake,” Coleman says. “Some make their own natural ‘antifreeze’ that replaces the water in their cells at the first hint of frost. There’s lots to see, learn and explore at this little lake and along its shore.”
Ice Lake is part of a 79-acre natural area that protects the pure, safe waters of Cranberry Creek.
The Water Wiser Kids Series sponsored by Brodhead Watershed Association, funded by a Dr. Claus Jordan Endowment Grant from Lehigh Valley Health Network Pocono Foundation.
