The Independent Fiscal Office Tuesday released its April to June Quarterly Report on Natural Gas Production in Pennsylvania which shows gas production is up 3 percent and the number of producing wells are up 7.6 percent for the calendar year.
For the April to June quarter, natural gas production was 1,315.7 billion cubic feet -- a 3.8 percent increase from the same quarter in 2016-- and the number of producing wells was 7,853-- 7.5 percent more than the quarter in 2016.
According to the IFO, production growth decelerated from 14.5 percent in the second quarter of 2016 to 2.2 percent in the first quarter of 2017. During the most recent quarter, production growth accelerated to 3.9 percent. The number of producing wells has grown steadily over the last six quarters.
The top producing counties are Susquehanna, Washington, Bradford, Greene, Lycoming, Wyoming, Tioga, Butler, Sullivan and Fayette.
