The PA Section of the American Water Works Association and its partners will hold a Workshop on Rates and Finance for Small Water Systems on September 13 in New Castle, Lawrence County.
This workshop is designed for water systems serving 10,000 or fewer people, though systems of any size may attend.
It is especially targeting local government systems facing financial challenges. Local drinking water system managers, clerks, treasurers, elected officials, and others who budget and/or set rates would benefit from this workshop.
Owners of privately owned systems, consultants and technical assistance providers serving water systems are also invited to attend.
Topics include all aspects of financial management and planning of a water system fund
including rates and rate setting, controlling costs, planning for capital expenses, accessing external funding, tracking and benchmarking financial performance, and other Enterprise Fund issues that small water systems face.
You will learn how to: Assess and monitor financial performance; Design appropriate rate structures and set fair rates that cover costs; Plan to fund future capital costs; and Locate external funding sources (loans and grants).
The workshop will be held at PA American Water, 2736 Ellwood Road in New Castle from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
