Allegheny County Chapter Of Senior Environment Corps Launched, Training Set

The Allegheny Watershed Alliance and the Allegheny County Conservation District are excited to announce the launch of the Allegheny Chapter of the Senior Environment Corps (SEC).
The SEC, a program of Nature Abounds, engages volunteers aged 55+ to monitor water quality, stencil storm drains, conduct stream habitat assessments, provide environmental education, create community gardens, survey wildlife, and clean up parks and trails.
In addition to creating a positive impact on the environment and local communities, the SEC provides the perfect opportunity to get outside, learn new skills, meet new people and create a network.
The SEC program has been operating in Pennsylvania since 1997 and currently has SEC members engaged in twenty-two counties.  There are SEC chapters in other states including Maryland, New Jersey, Alabama, Montana, and Florida.
You do not need special skills or previous experience in the environmental field to be a part of the SEC. All we ask is that you donate your time to this awesome program.
Anyone that is 55+ citizens living near or in Allegheny County contribute to monitoring our water quality and educating others on what they have learned.
Training Session March 25
The first training session is on March 25 at the Fern Hollow Nature Center in Sewickley, followed by another training on April 8th at Walker Park in Edgeworth Borough.
