The Brodhead Watershed Association will host a series of green infrastructure workshops in Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg and Stroud Township, Monroe County, to teach landowners how they can create places and practices to protect your environment and drinking water.
Green infrastructure – which includes rain barrels, trees, gardens, green roofs, rain gardens (photo), planted buffers along streams, native plant meadows, grassy swales and more – captures polluted runoff and clean it up before it reaches streams.
The workshops will be held at 7 p.m. at these locations:
-- September 14: Stroud Township Municipal Building, 1211 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg;
-- September 20: Historic Dansbury Depot, 5 S. Kistler St., East Stroudsburg; and
-- September 28: Stroudsburg Municipal Building, 700 Sarah St., Stroudsburg.
At the workshops, the three municipalities will explore which types of green infrastructure to use locally. Residents, your input is wanted and welcome!
Workshop participants will also learn how to build a rain garden, install a rain barrel and “live green” to keep your drinking water and streams clean.
At the end of each workshop, a rain barrel will be given away to a lucky winner!
