The latest natural gas production report from the Independent Fiscal Office shows natural gas production in Pennsylvania is up 12.8 percent so far in 2016 over 2015 production levels. The number of producing wells has also increased 15.4 percent.
The IFO said production gains were driven by wells drilled in 2014, 1,006 of which started producing in the first quarter of 2016.
In total, there are 8,700 unconventional gas wells in Pennsylvania of which 6,584 are producing natural gas, according to the report.
