Friends Of Allegheny Wilderness Emergency Trail Clearing Project April 9-10

In the early morning hours of June 23 a powerful storm blew west to east across part of the proposed Minister Valley Wilderness Area in the Allegheny National Forest, knocking down hundreds of trees, and even tragically killing one young camper.
The U.S. Forest Service and the Friends of Allegheny Wilderness will do additional trail clearing work April 9 and 10 on the Deer Lick Trail in the proposed Minister Valley Wilderness Area in Warren County.
The FAW trail crew will meet at the Minister parking lot on State Route 666 on April 9 in the morning, hike in and work on the Deer Lick trail all day Saturday, camp at the Deer Lick area Saturday night,
Work will begin during the day April 10 and hike out sometime that afternoon. Day workers are also welcome for those who don’t wish to camp out!
Volunteers should plan to bring their own food, water, gloves, and sturdy hiking boots, and camping gear if they plan to camp out. If possible, volunteers are asked to bring their own tools such as axes, loppers, and pruning saws/bow saws.
The crew will not be using chainsaws or other power tools since Minister Valley is an official ANF Wilderness Study Area.
