Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Quigley will talk about the top recommendations made by the Pipeline Infrastructure Task Force on Thursday, February 18 in a webinar starting at 11:00 a.m. [PA Environment Digest will provide a summary after the webinar.]
In the next decade, Pennsylvania will undergo a substantial pipeline infrastructure build-out to transport gas and related byproducts from thousands of wells throughout the state.
According to DEP, there are now about 12,000 miles of natural gas pipelines in Pennsylvania and in the next decade DEP expects 30,000 more miles of pipelines to be built.
DEP Secretary John Quigley has said the Task Force’s recommendations will help Pennsylvania achieve responsible development of natural gas pipeline infrastructure in the Commonwealth.
The final report makes recommendations in six major categories and are designed to drive wider public discussion on the critical, complex, interrelated environmental, and community issues that Pennsylvania faces in the development of the infrastructure needed to get gas to market.
The recommendations in the report were ranked by 42 of the 48 members of the Task Force voting in January on whether they agreed or disagreed with each suggestion being made.
The final report will include a final chart showing which agencies will be responsible for implementing each of the recommendations.
