Author Of Beyond Rust Rebirth Of Pittsburgh Book Signing Nov. 28 In Harrisburg

Allen Dieterich-Ward, author of Beyond Rust: Metropolitan Pittsburgh and the Fate Of Industrial America, will do a presentation and book signing in Harrisburg on November 28.
Beyond Rust chronicles the rise, fall, and rebirth of metropolitan Pittsburgh over the course of the twentieth century and is among the first books of its kind to continue past the collapse of American manufacturing in the 1980s by exploring the diverse ways the region's residents and communities have sought places for themselves in the postindustrial world.
“There's lots of environmental history in here,” said Dietrich-Ward. “I have a chapter exploring the development of CONSOL's strip mines and Ohiopyle State Park, for example, as well as urban renewal, suburban politics, and heritage-based revitalization (the book ends with the story of Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area in Homestead).
Allen Dietrich-Ward is an Associate Professor of History at Shippensburg University.
The author will be at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, 1302 N. 3rd. in Harrisburg from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  To RSVP, send email to: ajdieterichward@ship.edu.
