DEP Secretary John Quigley will be the guest on the October 18 Environmental Focus TV program produced by the PA Environmental Council to be aired at 4:00 on the PA Cable Network.
During this in-depth, half-hour interview, Quigley discusses the potential impacts of climate change on Pennsylvania and its effects on public health, the economy, agriculture, energy, and more.
He also addresses the current status of Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed Clean Energy Plan and the relationship between clean energy and climate change.
Some of the more significant impacts of climate change discussed by Quigley include:
-- By 2050, Pennsylvania’s climate is expected to reach that of present-day Washington, D.C. Also by 2050, Pennsylvania ski resorts will not be economically viable due to decreasing snow cover.
-- Pennsylvania’s black cherry trees are receding and are expected to continue their current rate of decline.
-- Tropical diseases, such as West Nile Virus, are increasing due to increasing temperatures that enable disease-carrying insects to thrive.
Previous editions of “Environmental Focus” have featured topics such as outdoor recreation on Pennsylvania’s waterways, Pennsylvania’s state budget, the Pennsylvania Pipeline Infrastructure Taskforce, and the Delaware River Conservation Program with guests such as Quigley, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn, and Andrew Johnson of the William Penn Foundation.
