Local affiliates of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful serving Butler, Cambria, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lawrence, Mercer, Mifflin and Perry counties are gearing up to hold their annual special collection events.
Participating affiliates include: Keep Cambria County Beautiful, Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful, Keep Juniata County Beautiful, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County, Keep Perry County Beautiful and Tri-County CleanWays in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
The collection events are sponsored in part by the Department of Environmental Protection’s HHW/Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program and provide a convenient, low cost opportunity to the community to properly dispose of appliances, tires, electronics and more.
“We are grateful to the Department of Environmental Protection for helping to offset costs of collections through the HHW/Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program grants. The tires, appliances and other items that are collected at these events won’t end up over the hill where they would be difficult and costly to remove. These collections ensure proper disposal,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “I really commend our affiliates for providing this yearly service. It allows residents to plan for proper disposal.”
This year also marks the tenth Tire War between Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful, Keep Juniata County Beautiful, PA CleanWays of Mifflin County, and Keep Perry County Beautiful.
These four affiliates engage in an annual friendly rivalry to compete for the most tires collected at their perspective collections. The winner receives a handmade “Gold Rim” award.
