Do you have a passion for conserving our natural resources? This September, in Southcentral PA, Penn State Extension is offering a rare opportunity for you. Two “Watershed Decisions” workshops will be held, free of charge, for anyone interested in learning how to teach others about preserving local water resources.
Penn State Extension is offering a free workshop for community members and educators to learn how to teach others about water.
Workshops will be held on September 15 in Dauphin, Dauphin County, and September 22 in Carlisle, Cumberland County. Both workshops will run from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
The first 25 registrants will even take home a free, award winning activity kit valued at $30.00.
Registration is open to all interested persons. Formal and informal educators, conservation group members, community organizers, scout leaders, and municipal employees are encouraged to attend. Act 48 credit hours will be offered for certified PA teachers.
At the Watershed Decisions workshops, participants will get the opportunity to try out two innovative, hands-on activities that they can use to teach others. The first activity, Watershed Decisions, is an inquiry-based role playing lesson and activity kit about watersheds and community planning.
This activity has been nationally recognized by several educational associations. Full curriculum kits for this activity will be given to the first 25 registrants at each workshop.
The second activity, Rain to Drain - Slow the Flow, is a brand new hands-on curriculum about the movement of stormwater in our communities and how we can minimize its impacts through "green" management practices.
These Watershed Decisions workshops are offered for free as a limited opportunity thanks to funding from the Department of Environmental Protection. The workshop in Dauphin is being offered in coordination with the Dauphin County Conservation District.
Penn State encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Jennifer Fetter at 717-921-8803 in advance of your participation or visit.
