PRC, PA American Water Wonderful World Of Water Camp A Success

Water themed activities including games, crafts, relays, lessons, hikes, and more dominated the PA Resources Council’s 10th Annual Wonderful World of Water Day Camp which was held the week of July 13 near Pittsburgh.
Generously sponsored by the PA American Water Company, PRC's 5-day All Things Water Camp was held at the Outdoor Classroom in Upper St. Clair.
Ten miles of trails, the lovely Chartiers Creek, a beautiful outdoor education pavilion, perfect camp weather, and 30 enthusiastic 7-11 year olds made for a great week of outdoor education focused on water, watersheds, and water quality.
In addition to learning basic water facts, campers also learned that the manner in which we conduct our daily affairs in and around our homes, schools, and businesses, has a significant effect on the water quality in our rivers, streams, and oceans.
Campers also learned about litter, recycling, composting, erosion, vegetation, the use and disposal of household chemicals, and more.

The highlight of the week was a visit from naturalist extraordinaire, Verna McGinley. Verna has been with us since the beginning of water camp in 2006 and each year is a thrill. The children have the opportunity to hold animals and to reap the benefits of Verna's extensive knowledge.
Many thanks to PA American Water Co. for providing this free camp to children in the South Hills and to the staff of the Outdoor Classroom for providing both the optimal setting for camp and also for facilitating morning sessions.
